Smoothing out the week

My week has gotten a lot better. I’ve worked out some problems that were seriously troubling me, son’s blood sugar is looking better today, and we’re learning how to give shots again so the rough surfaces of the beginning of this week are smoothing out. The stress is easing up.

I found a great, brand new blog. It’s called “The Shrinking Vegetarian” , written by an Australian. How cool is that? Very, I think. I love those Aussies.

I’ll link to that blog in my sidebar because I want to follow her on her weight loss journey. It’s funny how we’re ALL the same. We all have the same struggles and confusion, but over time, it all makes more sense. I’m looking forward to watching her journey. I haven’t found anyone new in a long time. Hop over there and give her a boost of encouragement!

BUT…Shrinking Vegetarian, I tried posting a crazy long blog comment and a little short one, and your system didn’t accept either. I saved the long novel, so that if you send me an email at: katiejohnsonwriter@yahoo.com, I can shoot it off to you. But I did want you to know that your comment thing doesn’t seem to be working. It didn’t tell me you were holding the comment till approval. It just gobbled it up and…it was gone.

Soooo, people, *I* am lifting weights! Yes I AM. These big, heavy weights with the #3 printed on them. OK, so they’re only 3 pound weights. But it’s HARD.

My trainer created a new strength plan for me for this month, involving a stability ball, resistance bands and torture devises. Oh alright, no torture devises. The stability ball and bands are winging their way from the Amazon fairies, where all good things come from. So for the time being, I’m improvising with the only weights I do have.

I actually like lifting weights. I can easily develop hard-core hatred for some exercises, for no known reason – to the point where I would almost rather have another baby than ever do another set. But I think I like the weights. And I’m hoping the bouncy ball LOOKS so fun, that my mind will think that it’s fun.

It’s all about staying one step ahead of the brain.

  1. Thanks so much for the shout out! I am not sure what happened with the comment – I have done a test and it worked, but it was from a blogger account. I will keep looking into it and hopefully I can get it worked out. 🙂

Well done on the weights. I need to start doing strength work, but I just don’t like it… 🙂

I have to commend you on so much effort when it comes to exercise and conditioning. Not only are you working towards the 5K but also have taken on strength training. I’m really impressed. I’m lucky if I can manage to turn on the Wii for a few dances or games three or four times a week. Ugh!

    • Jennifer,
Part of it is that I’m 51. I can’t say ENOUGH about how hard it is to carve a life out for YOURSELF when you still have little ones at home. I admire, tremendously, anyone who can lose weight with kids at home. I just could never do it. I bow down to you!!!

Little yellow weights lead to . . . bigger weights in other fun colors! I’m 100 percent convinced that strength training is the closest thing we have to a fountain of youth. The older I get, the more interested I am in the aging process and how much the problems we associate with aging (sarcopenia, osteopenia, loss of balance) are largely the result of sedentary living.

Your training plan sounds like fun (except whatever you’re doing with the torture devices). 🙂

    Mary

    • Mary, I’m starting to get that!!! My body is changing in ways that are really positive–less fat! The strength training is really helping. I think I’m going to LOVE this. Thanks for your comment 🙂
