I survived

Here’s a funny yoga video for you: “Yoga. Fat people are doing it.”

I did it. I did that friggin’ yoga. Oh my freakin’ goodness it’s hard. I sweat and puffed and drank water and kept going and I did it!

In all fairness, parts of it were easier this time, so I did recognize that. But long about the middle of the 20 minutes of sheer torture in the center, I thought, screw this! But I kept going.

This time, I stopped to gulp down some water when I needed it. I never paused the dvd but I did hear Bob say not to push yourself so you’d hate it-to drop to child pose for a few seconds if you have to and not to feel bad about it. Do what you can. So I heard that this time. I did drop down to child’s pose about 3 or 4 times, and those blessed couple of seconds of rest were what I needed to keep going.

The other modifications I did this time were: sometimes I just had to drop my arms to my hips. They felt like 2 ton weight sometimes. Now I know how Moses must have felt, holding up his arms during that battle at…somewhere. A couple of times I had to pull out of a pose early.

What I learned: THAT’S OK!! I kept going, I burned fat, I sweated and I’m proud of myself.

I can’t see myself loving this workout. But you know, I’ve been a lazy blob for ten years. I’m so used to easy, gently, stretching yoga, and honestly, that hasn’t helped me to fix the physical problems I’ve got going on because of all of my fat. If it’s not working, it’s time to try something else. I read something last night that I want to adopt: “Exercise is My Second Job”. I love that. It’s worth it. It’s just not easy. Not. Friggin’. Easy.

*update: I also did my 75 minute walk in the desert. I figured that I can go as slow as I want if I’ve already done the yoga. I just love being outside. As much as I say I won’t walk, I just seem to have to. Yes, it’s hard, but it’s just so perfect.
